Ruthless and arrogant, the taredhel intend to let nothing stand in their way; but before long, Pug and the Conclave realise that it's not necessarily the elves, but the demon horde pursuing them where the true danger lies. And hanging over Pug always is the prophecy that he will be doomed to watch everyone he loves die before him…

As I come to the end of this book, I have to say, "wow... just wow." This is story-telling at its finest, and this one is quite different than other installments in the Riftwar Saga (although I do find them each unique, regardless.) sometimes I'm a little bit reluctant to accept entirely new figures once you've stuck so long through other enduring ones, but at no point was I reluctant this time. I will not spoil anything, but I will say that this is probably the most poignant of all titles in the series so far. I actually teared up, which is fairly unusual for me unless I'm genuinely touched. I'm loving how so many elements of the other titles from the past are now being incorporated as the saga draws closer toward a (regretful) conclusion. With titles that support both continuity and expanding storylines that supplant the main story, this is, to me, the finest example of sequential storytelling that I have ever encountered!
